    This program is designed for medical professionals seeking to augment their understanding of treating trauma patients. Any healthcare practitioner with advanced expertise engaged in trauma patient care is eligible to enroll in this course, including physicians, residents, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners.
  • What to expect on an ATLS course
    DallasATLS.org offers ATLS provider, refresher courses & Instructor potential courses. We will always adhere to the guidelines set by the ACS. Every ATLS course employs an instructional format designed to facilitate the learning of essential concepts, skills, and techniques vital for initial patient resuscitation. The course incorporates various methods, such as foundational didactic lectures, interactive skills demonstrations, small group discussions, simulation techniques, and practical skills tests. It is important to note that we do not utilize cadavers or live anaesthetized animals for our skills training.
  • Our Experience
    Our primary faculty comprises seasoned surgeons and emergency medicine practitioners, each possessing extensive experience in delivering trauma care within acute care settings. The entirety of our instructional staff has received approval or eligibility status from the American College of Surgeons (ACS) as Accredited Trauma Life Support (ATLS) Instructor faculty. This attestation underscores their proficiency and adherence to the rigorous standards set forth by the ACS in trauma care education.
  • Accreditation & CME
    Upon successful completion of the program, physicians will attain ATLS verification as stipulated by the American College of Surgeons. Participants will be awarded 19 Category 1 CME credits. Accreditation and CME Information: Accreditation: The American College of Surgeons holds accreditation from the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), enabling the provision of continuing medical education for physicians. AMA PRA Category 1 Credits AMA PRA Category 1 Creditsâ„¢: This live activity is designated by the American College of Surgeons for a maximum of 15.75 AMA PRA Category 1 Creditsâ„¢. Physicians should only claim credits corresponding to their level of participation in the activity. Among the listed AMA PRA Category 1 Creditsâ„¢, up to 15.75 credits fulfill the requirements for Self-Assessment, while a maximum of 15.75 credits meet the criteria for Trauma. The American College of Surgeons designates this live activity for a maximum of 16 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. Of the AMA PRA Category 1 Credits listed above, a maximum of 16 credits meet the requirements for Self-Assessment.   • Who is eligible for "initial" or "provider"
    Important: The "Initial" or "Provider" courses cater to individuals seeking certification for the first time or those providers who did not undergo a refresher course during the recertification period. If your certification has expired, you have the opportunity to enroll in a recertification class within 6 months after the expiration date on your ATLS card. It is crucial to note that this grace period exclusively pertains to your eligibility for a recertification course and does not extend the certification period for hospital credentialing purposes.

    DallasATLS.org conducts the ATLS® Full Provider course over a two-day period, incorporating simulation and addressing a comprehensive range of topics.   • Program Objectives
    We adhere to the guidelines set by the ACS. Please refer to the ACS website for additional information. In layman terms, we aim to: Illustrate the principles and ideas inherent in both primary and secondary patient assessments. Determine the key priorities in managing trauma situations. Commence the necessary primary and secondary management steps within the critical golden hour for addressing emergencies with acute life-threatening conditions. In a provided simulated clinical and surgical skills practicum, exhibit the skills frequently essential during the initial assessment and treatment of patients with multiple injuries.
  • Course Completion Requirements
    The successful culmination of the course depends on the participant's overall performance throughout its entirety. Acknowledgment of completing the course successfully is contingent upon fulfilling the following criteria: Full attendance at the entire course, including all lectures, skill stations, and testing stations. Demonstration of knowledge and proficiency in accordance with the course requirements. Completion of a hands-on initial assessment scenario, showcasing knowledge and proficiency. Achieving a score of 75% or higher on the post-written examination.

  • ATLS® Full Provider Overview
    ATLS® is a training program developed in accordance with the guidelines established by the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma (ACS COT). The Tenth Edition of the ATLS® Course has been crafted by the Subcommittee on ATLS® and The ACS COT. This program offers a succinct approach to evaluating and managing patients with multiple injuries, equipping physicians with comprehensive knowledge and adaptable techniques. The manual outlines one secure method for each technique, while acknowledging the American College of Surgeons' recognition that alternative approaches may be acceptable. The knowledge and skills imparted in the course can be easily customized to suit various patient care settings. The Advanced Trauma Life Support® (ATLS®) program imparts a systematic and concise approach to trauma patient care. Developed by the American College of Surgeons (ACS) Committee on Trauma (COT) in 1980, ATLS courses provide a reliable method for the immediate management of injured patients. Participants learn to assess a patient's condition, perform resuscitation and stabilization, and determine if the patient's needs exceed the facility's capacity. The course also covers the organization of inter-hospital transfers, ensuring optimal care throughout the process. Particularly beneficial for those who do not regularly treat trauma patients, an ATLS® course offers an easily memorizable method for evaluating and treating trauma victims.
  • ATLS® Refresher Course Overview
    Offers healthcare professionals the chance to uphold their current standing, this half-day course offers certified ATLS® providers the option to refresh and renew their certification. The course encompasses a review of content, engagement in skills stations, and participation in both written and practical tests. Upon successfully completing the renewal course, participants earn a certification status that remains effective for a substantial period of four years from the date of course completion. This ensures that healthcare professionals have the opportunity to stay abreast of the latest developments in trauma care, emphasizing the ongoing importance of education and skill enhancement in the dynamic field of medical practice.
  • ATLS® Instructor Course Overview
    Student Course participants identified as having instructor potential may advance to the Instructor Course within a specified time frameTeaches the doctor how to teach the Advanced Trauma Life Support® (ATLS®) Student Course Eligibility to participate is limited to doctors in countries where the program has been introduced and promulgated by the ACS With successful completion of the course, the provider has one year to complete their instructor candidate check off in order to become an independent ATLS® instructor.
